Crazannes, a region of stones
To the west of Saintes, you will find
the Crazannes quarries, where a lot of “pierreux” have extracted
the Crazannes stone for 2000 years. This stone has become famous, as it
was used to build the Boyard Fort, the Germanicus Arch in Saintes and maybe
the statue of Liberty!
Follow the road of the stone from Crazannes to Envaux Port. In the village
of Crazannes, enter the Pierreux House and discover the history of the quarry
and the workers' universe.
Stop at the Nature Point of Crazannes stone and follow the path combining
history and nature. Unique landscapes, plentiful vegetation, visit of the
carrier and invitation to carve stone will punctuate you tour.
Eventually, follow the stone sculptures path to go to the Lapidiales; carved
quarries.
