With a building of 374 meters, the royal rope manufacture was the longest maritime arsenal, in 17th century Europe. It now houses the International Center of the Sea, with a permanent exhibition about ropes and temporaries exhibitions dedicated to sea adventures. The Hermione yard also represents the history between Rochefort and the New World. A big 65 meters long ship from the 18th century is being rebuilt there. This frigate is the one La Fayette used to sail to America in 1780. Like the original frigate, the rebuilt Hermione should actually sail off.
