The relations
between the basins of the river charente and the river Richelieu have
deep roots in the past, but above all, they belong to the present time.
The twinning Charente-Richelieu takes part in a context of revival of
exchanges. A common willingness allows both territories to take up with
their ancestral links. |

Beyond the enthousiasm for genealogical researches, an inventory of
the places holding a common memory has been launched. In Brouage, the
Maison Champlain was built to enhance the relations with Quebec.
The university of La Rochelle has a special pole of research on Northern
America and on Québec, and university exchanges are numerous.
Every year, a summer university aprogram called “summer university”
allows students from La Rochelle to discover Québec, and vice
versa.
What is more, several associations and companies have partnerships and
organise actions in common. For example, the association of La Route
des Tonneaux et Canons in Charente has strong connections with the region
of the river Richelieu.As for the famous comics festival in Angoulème,
Charente, it focused on Quebec comics authors in 2000. In 2007 the festival of comics in Quebec and in Angoulême have organised a comics competition in common.
